Preventing Malaria + Promoting Livelihoods

In rurual, western Kenya

With the support of an active, engaged and generous donor, we were able to screen 19 houses in the Kisumu area of western Kenya. By screening, we mean that we covered the otherwise opened eaves of select houses in the community. In doing this, we made it very hard for pesky mosquitoes to get inside. With fewer mosquitoes inside, this lowered the number of bites per person in the house, meaning reduced risk of being exposed to malaria. True to our name, we also employed a group of local youth to install the screens and follow up with families about the project's success, helping them gain marketable skills and encouraging them to be active agents of change in their communities.

We could go on and on, telling you about the details of the project. But thankfully on of our very own interns, Annie Melcher, did a great job of putting together a video to explain all that. (Go ahead and watch the video if you haven't already.)
